Sometimes the best place to start is the Storage Room

5/24/2026

Have you ever started an organizing project you knew would make life feel better, only to become overwhelmed before really getting started?
One of the best places to begin is often the storage areas of the home; the garage, basement, spare room, shed, or storage unit. These spaces are meant to support everyday living by housing the things we need occasionally, without taking over our daily living spaces.
When storage areas become too full, it can begin to feel like there is nowhere for things to go. That is often a sign it may be time to revisit what is truly still serving you and what may be ready to move on and serve someone else.
As life changes, our homes and belongings often need to change with us. It can be helpful to ask:
  • Am I still using these items?
  • Do they still support the life I am living now?
  • Would simplifying this area create more ease for me?
Sometimes creating more peace in the home begins simply by creating a little more space.

How Organizing & Feng Shui can restore calm and clarity

With so much change and uncertainty in the world right now, it’s natural to feel unsettled at times. One of the most supportive things we can do in moments like this is create calm and order in our immediate environment.
When I was young and feeling uncertain or trying to work something through in my mind, I would go to my closet and start organizing. Putting my attention on something tangible helped me create clarity there and often clarity inside myself as well.
Your home is your personal universe. Small, intentional shifts can restore a sense of steadiness, clarity, and control.
From an organizing and Feng Shui perspective, here are a few simple things you can do this week:

  • Clear one visible surface, a kitchen counter, entry table, or bedside stand. Open space creates open thinking.
  • Open your windows for even a few minutes each day to refresh the energy in your home.
  • Walk through your home and remove 9 items you no longer use or love. Small releases create forward movement.
  • Make your bed daily, it sets a tone of completion and self-support.
  • Keep your entry area tidy and welcoming, this is where new opportunities enter.
These are small actions, but they are powerful. Order in your space supports steadiness in your mind and emotions.

Take care of yourself and your space, they are more connected than you may think.

Your home is more than just a place to live—it’s your sanctuary, a reflection of who you are, and the backdrop to life’s most meaningful moments. But when a home doesn’t quite fit—whether it’s the location, layout, or how it accommodates your lifestyle—it can affect everything.
The moment you step into the right home, you feel it. It just clicks. Everything falls into place. While you can always create good Feng Shui and organization in a space that suits you, if a home doesn’t feel right from the start, that in itself can disrupt the balance you’re looking for.
That’s why finding the perfect home is so important—and why I highly recommend working with Dee Dee Rockwell. She brings energy, passion, and a deep commitment to making your home search both exciting and rewarding. With access to homes you might not find on your own and a true dedication to helping you find the perfect fit, she’s the guide you want by your side.

If you’ve never had a Feng Shui consultation or have only experimented with bits and pieces of it from what you’ve read or heard, this information is for you. I’d like to share a bit about Feng Shui and why it’s an important aspect of my business and the services I offer.
As we step into a new year, Feng Shui offers a purposeful way to set your intentions and use your environment to support your goals. It’s also a way to connect deeply with your surroundings, transforming your home from just a place you live, into a place you truly love. Your home should feel like a sanctuary—a haven where you can relax, recharge—and also set you up for success to meet your intentions.
There are many facets of Feng Shui that influence how your home works for you—or why it may not feel quite right. A key factor is balancing the elements, which can determine whether your space feels harmonious or if you find yourself stuck in repetitive, unproductive patterns. A Feng Shui consultation is a proactive step that can help align your space with your aspirations, enabling positive change.
While you can apply Feng Shui principles in small, incremental ways, fully committing to a comprehensive approach often brings the most transformative results.

At the start of a new year, I highly recommend doing a space clearing. This practice removes the stagnant energy of the previous year, allowing your intentions for the new year to manifest more easily.
If you want to start 2025 with clarity, purpose, and alignment, consider a Feng Shui consultation. It’s a powerful way to set yourself up for success and see your goals come to life.

The Power of Clarity

Organization impacts nearly every area of your life. When it comes to getting healthy or losing weight, for instance, success often starts with structure. You need to take a closer look at your habits—what you’re eating, when you’re eating, how much water you’re drinking. These aspects all need to be organized to create and sustain a healthy body.

The same is true for finances. To manage money effectively, you need to calculate, plan, and organize how you’ll earn and allocate your resources.
Every area of life benefits from organization. From building effective habits, to setting up systems that keep your life running smoothly, organization is the foundation for clarity and success. Even relationships thrive when communication is clear, decisions are mutual, and there’s a shared sense of structure in how you operate together.
Confusion often arises when things lack a clear place, when agreements are missing, or when life feels out of control because everything happened all at once. That’s where organizing comes in—it creates clarity.
Working with a professional organizer can be a game-changer. Here's why:
  1. Momentum: Organizers help you stay focused and keep the process moving forward.
  2. Objectivity: They bring a fresh, unbiased perspective to the situation.
  3. Collaborative Solutions: Working together leads to innovative ideas and quicker solutions.
Most people accomplish far more with the help of a professional organizer than they could on their own. The process not only leads to tangible results but also teaches valuable skills to maintain the progress long-term.
If you’re ready to bring clarity and transformation to your life, now is the time to take action! Take the first step toward creating a positive, lasting difference for yourself.

Smart Packing strategies to simplify your move

Is It Time for You to Move?
A move often disrupts the familiar structure you've been living in. It can either be a welcome change or feel overwhelming. Regardless, it usually addresses aspects that haven't been working well and can lead to a better living situation. Even when you know the change will be for the better, the thought of packing can still feel daunting. Here are some tips to help you get started with packing before things start to improve:
  1. Begin with Items You Use Less Frequently
Start by packing things you don’t need on a daily basis. Depending on the season, this could include off-season clothing, seasonal decor, or sports equipment you’re not currently using.
  2. Reduce Clutter if You’re Selling Your Home
When preparing to sell your home, less is more. Remove personal items such as family photos and artwork. These should be packed to help potential buyers envision themselves in the space.
  3. Organize Items by Category for Easy Access
Pack your items in categories based on how you’ll need them at the new location. For example, keep all everyday kitchen items—such as dishes, glasses, and silverware—in clearly labeled boxes, so they’re easily accessible upon arrival. Less essential kitchen items can be packed together in separate boxes.
  4. Pack a “Go-To” Box
Prepare a box with essentials you’ll need immediately, such as toilet paper, paper towels, medications, a few changes of clothes, and even pajamas. Having these items ready will make the first few days in your new home much more manageable.
  5. Involve Your Kids
If you have children, have them pack a backpack with their most important items—comfort items, toys, or anything they’ll want access to right away.
  6. Plan for Your Space in Both Homes
Take note of the storage spaces you have in your current home (like linen closets or coat closets) and consider whether those will be available in your new home. Be sure to pack these items accordingly and label the boxes, so they’re easy to find and organize later.
  7. Pack by Category
Rather than packing randomly, group similar items together. This approach will make unpacking much easier, as you’ll be able to find things faster when you need them.
  8. Use Manageable Box Sizes
Avoid packing everything into large boxes. While it may seem efficient, large boxes can be difficult to move and unpack. Opt for boxes that are easier to carry and transport, so the moving process remains manageable.
  9. Purge as You Pack
As you go through your items, take the opportunity to purge things you no longer need. If you’ve been holding onto items for too long, now is the time to donate them. This step not only reduces clutter but also helps you focus on what truly matters.
  10. Start Early and Avoid Procrastination
Packing can feel overwhelming, but it’s best to start as early as possible. Begin by identifying items to donate and start clearing them out. The earlier you start, the smoother the process will be.
By following these tips, you can make the packing process more efficient and less stressful, leading to a smoother transition to your new home.

As we approach 2024, whether we're prepared or not, change is inevitable.  Many of us have found ourselves lacking the energy to continue the status quo.  Priorities have shifted, and there's a collective exploration of new ways of doing things, even though these paths are not yet clearly defined.  Amidst this evolution, one constant remains:  the transformative power of organizing.
Whether it is rearranging the physical space in our homes or offices, or sorting through and reflecting on our thoughts, organizing can profoundly impact our efforts to move forward. Discovering long-lost items, fixing makeshift solutions, or simply making necessary change in our living environment can unexpectedly kickstart progress in seemingly unrelated areas.  Take a moment to organize a neglected space or address a task you've been putting off.

For those seeking to provide a meaningful boost to themselves or a loved one, consider the gift of Professional Organizing.  I bring an objective perspective and a strong intention to align with your goals for change.

Take it to a DONE!

When deciding to organize a space, it is good practice to decide up front that you are going to go all the way with it.  I have found if an area is halfway organized, the same patterns that created the disorganization continue to happen.  Thoroughly sorting through things such as clothes, toys, books, tools, etc will allow you to fully define categories that make sense in your life.  When there is crossover of two or more categories that have been thrown into one, it can create confusion, especially when you are establishing new organizing systems.  Simply said...Dont do it halfway.  If you feel unsure about the sorting process because there are too many categories, call on a professional organizer to help.

Puzzled

If you have ever put together a good size puzzle, you might have experienced the process of your intuition kicking in and entire areas of the puzzle coming together quickly.  You have to go through the moments when you can’t find any pieces that will fit.
This is much the same process as organizing a room or an area of your home.  It is an organic process and sometimes takes patience before it all starts to come together.
Every decision that is made to either pass something along to someone else, throw it away or even where it will go in the end is a valuable decision.  The room may not look like you thought it should after a period of time but if you keep going you will see the transformation and it might be better than you expected.
People sometimes tell me that they hate organizing or going through things and making decisions on them.  They might have hit the point in the puzzle when they cant find where anything goes.  You have to be willing to set something aside until you know where it goes later on in the process and keep going.

If you feel you have hit that point with organizing your home or office and would like some help, please call me.  I will help you get things moving again.
