Keeping the Momentum

Articles No Comments »

If your life feels stagnant and you don’t feel as though you are moving forward with your goals and dreams, you might take a look around you at your space and the things in it. Your things could be holding you back from getting to where you want to be in life because everything in your space holds energy whether it is positive or negative. For example, When you have an unfinished project that has been left sitting out, the creative energy you had when you started the project is lost and the project itself loses momentum.

When working on a project that cannot be finished the same day, be sure to put everything away that you can instead of leaving it all out. This will keep your space organized and avoid creative projects from becoming stagnant.

A Place to Call Your Own

Articles No Comments »

Often times I go into people’s homes and find that couples are not equally represented in the space. We all have different tastes and want to be surrounded with the things we love. Opposites seem to attract one another and sometimes, if the styles of the people you live with are different than your own, conflict can arise. “What should go above the mantle piece?” “The prize rifle that Joe’s father taught him how to shoot with, or a dried flower swag that Sarah made with her own hands.”
I find that designating a place for each person in the house is very important. Children often have their own rooms and their styles can be represented well there. If children share a room, divide the room in half and designate an area for each child so that their artwork and things they love can be represented there.

Couples share the whole house, which makes it even more important for both individuals to be represented in their own space.

I had an experience with a couple that lived in a small condo. Neither of them had a room they could call their own, but they did have two bathrooms. We designated one bathroom as his and the other as hers. They both decided to clean and decorate each of their bathrooms themselves without the others input on how it is done. The end result is that each person has a space in the house to express themselves individually and come together on ideas in the areas that are shared.

If you don’t have the space to designate an entire room for each individual in the home, designating a desk or an area in a room will work just as well. I don’t recommend designating the garage for the husband as his sole space unless he is in agreement with that as well. It is nice if you both can have a room in the house that is your own.

In shared areas of the house, choose something to hang up that you both agree on and lovingly place it there for all to see. It will represent “peace” for both of you.

What is Hanging on Your Walls?

Articles No Comments »

Have you ever really looked at the artwork that is hanging on your walls in your home or office? Take a few moments this weekend to look a little deeper. You might find that there is a woman with her back towards you walking away, or someone with a very sad or stressed look on their face. Even the colors within the artwork we choose will have an effect on us.
You walk past these art pieces every day and are so used to seeing them there that you don’t think you notice them. You do. You would be surprised once you look a little deeper what is really going on around you in the art on your walls.

Consider what your artwork is saying to you and what it is saying to others that walk in your home or office. Be sure you get a wonderful feeling from what is seen as well as the unseen. The unseen are the feelings you get from knowing where the art came from, who gave it to you and what the circumstances were surrounding it. You may feel wonderful feelings from the unseen while others who know nothing about it are seeing quite a different picture.

Finish the Job!

Articles No Comments »

Get in the habit of finishing the job. A lot of my clients ask me…”Once we have organized this room, how am I going to maintain the organization?” Get in the habit of finishing the job.

A lot of us think that cooking the meal is the task and then we go off and do our thing. But cooking the meal also involves unloading the dishwasher if it is full, cooking the meal, putting the food away and then reloading the dishwasher with the dirty dishes. That is the whole job. If we do part of the job, then the rest of the job has to be done later which is exactly how we become overwhelmed with our environments.

When you bring in the mail…The whole job is to bring the mail in, open it, sift through it, decipher what goes and what stays, and then put the bills where they will be paid etc.

Begin looking at what the whole job entails. You might find that most of the time you are not finishing the whole job and those are the piles that are sitting around your home or office.

Out of self-discipline comes order, and out of order comes peace and harmony.
Don’t underestimate the power of peace and harmony.

Environment is a Reflection of Mind

Articles No Comments »

Your environment is a reflection of your mind but your mind is not a reflection of your environment.

Sometimes we are extremely orderly in our environment but our minds are still cluttered. They are cluttered with procrastination, avoidance and lack of awareness.

We can have order in our environment and be obsessed with it. When we become obsessed with our environment and the cleanliness or neatness of it, it usually means we are avoiding doing something without necessarily being conscious of it. When that happens, we are cluttering our minds.

Feng Shui brings the seen world (our homes and offices) together with the unseen world (our thoughts, dreams, goals and aspirations). Organizing does the same thing.
We have to look at both worlds and make sure they are in balance.

If your environment is spotless and you still feel overwhelmed maybe you’re to do list (either in your mind or on paper) is too long. If you have a long list of “to dos” that you have been avoiding for a long time, it may be time to be honest with yourself and really ask “am I ever going to do this?” Once you have eliminated some of those things you have been avoiding, you will then begin to find balance of both the seen and the unseen worlds.

Feng Shui Your Life Transition

Articles No Comments »

It seems that during the past 4 to 5 weeks big changes have taken place for a lot of people I know. Everywhere I turn I see people separating or getting divorced, discovering new relationships, or feeling as though they have been stuck and are now ready to move forward.

A lot of times when major transitions take place in our lives, it can feel as though everything is thrown upside down or is moving in an unexpected direction. In the large majority of cases the direction in which things turn is better than where they were headed. Most times it takes such a change to open our eyes to what is really going on in our lives, as we can’t see to make it happen ourselves. It is the Universe’s way of helping us get on the life path we need to be on in order to learn the life lessons we need to learn.

What I would say to all of you who are going through a transition of some sort is to be open to the new path the Universe is sending you on—it is always a better path when you stand back and look at the big picture. We tend to get caught up in day-to-day living and become blind to what is really going on around us.

For all of you who are going through transitions, or those who would like to move forward from where you are now, the use of Feng Shui is an excellent way to achieve those goals and to move through the transitions you are experiencing.

Trust Your Life

Resist the Urge to Hoard Information

In the last 15 years the Internet has changed the way we research information. We can find anything we are looking for on any subject at the drop of a hat. We tend to find more information than we actually need.

Before the information age, we would go to the library and photocopy what we needed or buy a book. We had an excuse to keep files on information because it wasn’t so easy to find.

Now, we have all the information we need and then some at our fingertips, and yet we still print out a lot of what we find on the Internet, and keep marketing mailings because we might want to buy the product some day. We have become information hoarders.

Marketing is getting people to buy or think about buying when they don’t need it. The reason we keep this marketing material or download information from the Internet is because we don’t need it right then but we might some day.

If it is seriously something that you need to have in your life, you will do the research on the Internet at the time you need it and you will find it. Trusting that the information will be available to you when you need it also means that you trust your life.

Once you trust your life you will also notice that your desk, house, and mind become clearer as a result.

If you feel more comfortable with knowing where to go for things you have found on the Internet in the past, create a Word document in your computer of Internet links or use your Web browser’s “Favorites” to save links and easily access them later. Then when you want to research those items, you know where to find them on your computer. The only reason you should print this piece of paper out is if you don’t back-up your computer.
